10 Kitchen Lighting Design Trends for 2024

Lighting your kitchen is one of the most important parts of having a kitchen. Because your kitchen is where you'll cook food, entertain guests, and possibly work on projects or crafts you need to be sure that you have a well-lit space to do all of this. Here are the top kitchen lighting trends for 2024.
  1. Curved silhouettes. In a stray from more straight-lined and modern fixtures, curved lighting silhouettes will prevail in 2024. Many homes will be introducing lights with more traditional styles. However, these fixtures won't have the curvetails and swoops of the early 2000s lighting styles. Rather, expect to see kitchen lighting that has traditional designs and clean lines. For example, the Collins Pendant from Hinkley Lighting fuses a modern form with classically styled details.
  2. Cozy lamps. If there is one light you add to your kitchen, let it be a lamp. Cozy table lamps are everywhere in 2024. When using a table lamp in your kitchen, aim for smaller-sized lamps to not take up too much counter space. Lamps in the kitchen also give a very warm and cozy glow. They are the perfect option for nighttime when you don't want to switch on all the kitchen lights and just need a little bit of light.
  3. Layered lighting. Another trend that will be hot in 2024 is layered lighting. Layered lighting is great in kitchens because it allows having cozier lighting or more light depending on the task at hand. One great way to incorporate layered lighting is with undercabinet LED strip lights. Using only undercabinet lights can create an intimate kitchen atmosphere perfect for any comforting kitchen scene. Additionally, they can help give off more light when used with other kitchen lights for any cooking or cleaning tasks.
  4. Natural materials. One trend we'll expect to see grown in kitchens in 2024, is the use of natural materials and designs. This extends to light fixtures as well. The different materials to look for are rattan, wood beads, leather, and basket-weave textured lights. Crystorama's 2024 releases included lights that had wood beads, rope shades, and rattan. 5. Mixed finishes. Don't get stuck in thinking that all your fixture finishes have to match each other or that they have to match the kitchen hardware. Mixing finishes in a kitchen can be a great way to add dimension to the overall kitchen design. You can easily mix black and gold finishes of lights and hardware. Additionally, many homeowners want the gold from their fixtures to match the gold of their hardware. While this is a personal design choice and should be made according to your tastes, sometimes it can be difficult to match finishes. Lighting Design recommends focusing on the light fixtures you want rather than ones that match your hardware. Once your kitchen lights are installed, we can almost guarantee that you won't notice the slight differences in finishes. This way, you'll get the perfect lighting for your kitchen.
  6. Over-island lantern pendants. Rather than the classic pendant shape, many decorators are opting for lanterns to hang over kitchen islands. Plenty of homes are starting to ode back to traditional styles. Lantern lights in a kitchen can tie in the nod to traditional style. They're also a perfect option for giving off the light necessary in most kitchens due to their open frames and typically clear glass. Lanterns allow the most light to filter through giving you the perfect option for island lighting.
  7. Quiet luxury. Inspired by the runway, quiet luxury is a style for those who don't want to keep changing with the trends. Quiet luxury light fixtures will be pieces that have more classic profiles and can transcend years in the home. Vogue calls these pieces, "...Investment pieces that you can base a room around."
  8. Sculptural statement pieces. Generally, 2024 interior design trends are leaning toward traditional, classic, and color. Many of the rooms in homes will rely on sculptural statement lighting to tie the design together. Kitchens are no exception to this. Statement pendants and even chandeliers have their place in kitchens. Think light pieces with strong brass tones, cement, or carved-out shapes.
  9. Recessed lighting. While traditional styles begin to gain popularity, modern and sleek interior design is still very much a trend. One way people are achieving this with lighting is through the use of recessed or can lighting. Can lights allow for well-lit rooms while also having a sleek and minimal style approach. Rather than hanging ceiling fixtures, recessed lights make their appearance in kitchens that don't want over-island pendants.
  10. A throwback to retro. As 2024 continues, we will most likely be seeing kitchen decor that throws it back to 60s, 70s, and even 80s styling. Kitchen lighting provides the perfect opportunity for vintage retro styling without adding things like shag carpets. Go for light fixtures that have pleated shades or antiqued brass. Those design features will allow you to incorporate retro styles into your kitchen while still updating the overall kitchen design.
