Best Lighting Tips

We asked some of our top salespeople for their top lighting tips they give to their customers. Needless to say, the information we gleaned will help you light your home as if you had a professional right there with you. Keep scrolling to read the best tips from professionals with 100 years of combined experience!

From Brandon Carter, “Get a professional.” This one may seem like a no-brainer BUT people often think they can do their lighting without one. And more often than not, the lights they purchase get returned. We offer virtual and in-store consultations (currently FREE). One of our highly-trained staff can help you get lighting that you’ll love for years to come.

Tip number two comes from Jaime Humphries who has 10 years of design experience and 5 years of lighting experience. Her number one tip she tells clients is, “Know your measurements.” This means you should know the size of your room length by width as well as the height of your ceilings. Additionally, you’ll want to know countertop length/height, mirror dimensions, and furniture dimensions depending on the room(s) you will be lighting.

Often, clients purchase lights without knowing their measurements. If you don’t know your measurements, chances are you’ll get a light that is either too big or too small for your space. And no one likes a light that doesn’t fit in their space. Because after all, you’ll have to look at this light for the next couple of years.

Another really important lighting tip is to make sure your bulb colors match throughout the house. This tip comes from Ben Hedin, the top salesperson at Lighting Design. Ben recommends staying between 2700K-3000K throughout your home.

You can easily make your lights the same color by purchasing bulbs that all have the same color temperature. We sell just about every kind of bulb and can pretty much guarantee you can find what you're looking for. Extra tip: 3000K is the best temperature for homes with grayscale/neutral color schemes.

Last, but certainly not least, you’ll want to make note of if you have vaulted/sloped ceilings. This tip comes from Capri Cheney who has 10 years of lighting experience. Many people don’t think about vaulted or sloped ceilings but it can really impact your lighting!

Sloped ceilings make a difference in the type of lights you get. While most lights can be converted using a sloped ceiling conversion kit not all can and it depends on the light. So always check if you have vaulted or sloped ceilings and we can help you make the right decision.

We hope you enjoyed our best lighting tips from some of our top salespeople. At Lighting Design, we have combined experience of 100 years in lighting so don’t hesitate to contact us for any of your lighting needs.
