Budget-Friendly Lighting Ideas and Tips
It seems like these days everyone's budget is getting tighter. When it comes to home upgrades, lighting is one of those easy and cost-effective ways to increase home value. However, lights can range from extremely high-end to lower-end. Let's talk about some ways you can replace your lights on a reasonable budget.
Tip #1: Replace lights over time. The number one rule with home upgrades is that they don't need to happen all at once! Unless you've got a ton of home equity or have suddenly come into a lot of money, home improvements and renovations happen over years. Maybe one month you set aside some money to replace your bedroom light and a few months later you do your kitchen lights. Make a list of which lights you want to switch out and in what order, follow that, and then work it into your monthly budget.
Tip #2: Look for dupes. A lot of the lighting you'll find on social media or the internet is typically high-end designer lighting. While beautiful, these types of light fixtures tend to be a bit pricey. The good news? Pretty much every designer light has a less expensive dupe. One way to find dupes is with a Google image search. You can screenshot a picture of the light you see and search it via Google. This usually provides the original light as well as some similar options.
Tip #3: Use disc or basic lighting. Keep in mind that not every light fixture you replace needs to be the most beautiful or decorative light. Disc lights make perfect swaps for older builder-grade lighting. With the new technology in these lights, they often provide better, brighter lighting and use less energy. And the best part? They usually range from $20-$50 making them an incredibly budget-friendly lighting upgrade.
