Ceiling Fan Buying Guide: How to Choose the Right Ceiling Fan Size

It’s that time of year again! The weather is starting to heat up and as you go to click on your ceiling fan you realize it’s either not working or out of style. So how do you choose the best ceiling fan for your room? Well here are few things to consider.

Location. Where will you be putting your fan? Inside or outside? If you’re going to be doing an outside fan, make sure it is wet rated. Wet-rated fans can go indoor/outdoor but indoor-only fans are for exactly that, inside only.

Size. Fans come in various sizes, but which size is right for you? Well, it depends on your room's size. Thanks to Hinkley for providing this easy-to-read infographic.

Ceiling Height. Your ceiling height will determine how long your fan downrod needs to be. Look at our chart below to see the length of downrod you need. Shop fan downrods now

CFM. CFM stands for Cubic Feet per Minute. It is the measurement for how much airflow your fan is going to give off. When talking about fans, a higher CFM is better. Try to get a fan with 5000 CFM or higher. Thank you to Hinkley for this helpful airflow graphic.

Style. Ceiling fans come in various different styles. They can either date your home or give it a modern and upgraded feel. If you want to update your room in 2021, get a fan with clean lines, a flush light kit, grey undertones. Shop our modern trends ceiling fans.
