6 Ways to Make Your Home Cozy for Fall

Pumpkin spice, cooler nights, and changing leaves are soon to make their debut for the fall season. If you're anything like us here at Lighting Design, you're looking for ways to lean into fall and make your environment cozy. Follow these easy and budget-friendly tips to make your home cozy for fall.

  1. Use fall scents. One of the easiest ways to make your home cozy for fall is with autumn scents. Candles, fragrance devices such as Pura, and/or scent diffusers are great ways to incorporate fall into the home. Look for scents with notes of apples, cinnamon, dusty florals, earth musk, ambered honey, or wood. One of our favorite scents is the Leaves Candle from Bath & Body Works.
  2. Lean into textures and patterns. If you want the perfectly cozy fall home, bring in textured blankets, leather furniture or accents, or velvet pieces for fall texture. For strong autumn patterns, think anything plaid or even moody florals. Pillows are an easy (and cheaper) swap to make when the summer season turns.

  3. Bring in autumnal colors. The perfect fall colors include any warm earthy tones. Think mustard yellow, warm brown, or a rich maroon. Again, pillows would be an easy way to incorporate autumnal colors. You can also opt for switch-out rugs or even bedding. Another option, though much less practical, is to use paint to include fall colors. Paint with green/dark green hues is an excellent option that you wouldn't necessarily need to change with the seasons.
  4. Swap greenery and flowers for autumn branches. If you have greenery or florals around your house, think in vases or even wreaths, fall is a great time to swap them out for more muted autumn branches. A few of the best fall branches include a red burgundy nandina leaf branch, dogwood branches, and red or golden eucalyptus branches.
  5. Rely on candlelight. As a lighting store, we of course love all things lights. It's always a good idea to make sure your light fixtures are up-to-date and looking their best as you prepare to entertain holiday guests. However, a cozy fall option is to rely on candlelight for your light. Relying on candlelight could be especially fun at a fall dinner with friends or during a nighttime fall baking session. 6. Decorate with pumpkins. This may be a no-brainer but pumpkins can bring an instantly cozy vibe to your home. And you don't have to decorate with real pumpkins. Your local Target has great options ranging from porcelain pumpkin candles to felt and fuzzy pumpkin decor. Strategically place pumpkins on your coffee table, your front doorstep, or on console tables to not be overwhelming.
