How to Choose the Perfect Chandelier for Your Home [FREE DOWNLOAD]

Chandeliers are the perfect way to add a focal point to any room in your home. Unlike canned lights or flush mounts, chandeliers are meant to take up space and bring life to a bedroom or family room. In fact, Luxxu Modern Design & Living says you should hang a chandelier in every room of your home.

However, picking the perfect chandelier can be a daunting task. With so many different styles, sizes, and materials to choose from, it can be difficult to know where to begin. Here are some tips to help you pick the perfect chandelier for your home.

Consider the Style of Your Home. When choosing a chandelier, it is important to consider the style of your home. If your home has a traditional or classic style, you may choose a chandelier with a more ornate design made of brass or crystal. If your home has a modern or contemporary style, a sleek and simple chandelier made of materials like metal or glass may be more appropriate.

Consider the Size of the Room. Another important factor to consider when choosing a chandelier is the size of the room. A small chandelier may be lost in a large room, while a large chandelier may overwhelm a small room. A general rule is, to add the length and width of a room together the convert to inches to get the width for a chandelier. For example, a 10' x 10' room would come out to 10 + 10 = 20". So you would want a 20" wide chandelier.  If the chandelier is being hung over a table, we recommend a diameter that is about half but no bigger than 3/4 the width of the table.

Consider the Height of the Ceiling. The height of the ceiling is also an important factor to consider when choosing a chandelier. If your ceiling is low, you may want to choose a flush mount or semi-flush mount instead of a chandelier. If your ceiling is high, you may want to choose a chandelier with a longer chain, adjustable rod, or two tiers to create a more dramatic effect.

Consider the Lighting Needs of the Room. The room's purpose and the space's lighting needs are also important considerations when choosing a chandelier. If the room is primarily used for entertaining, you may want a chandelier that provides a lot of light (i.e. at least eight bulbs or more). If the room is primarily used for relaxing, you may want a chandelier that provides softer, more ambient light.

Consider the Materials and Finishes. Chandeliers come in a wide variety of materials and finishes, including brass, crystal, glass, metal, and wood. When choosing a chandelier, consider the other materials and finishes in the room, such as the furniture and flooring, and choose a chandelier that complements them. For example, if you have a lot of metal finishes in the room, a metal chandelier may be a good choice.

Consider the Maintenance Requirements. Finally, it is important to consider the maintenance requirements of the chandelier. Some chandeliers require frequent cleaning and maintenance, while others are more low-maintenance. Consider your lifestyle and how much time and effort you are willing to put into maintaining the chandelier before making your final decision.

Choosing the perfect chandelier for your home requires careful consideration of a number of factors, including the style of your home, the size of the room, the height of the ceiling, the lighting needs of the space, the materials and finishes, and the maintenance requirements. By taking these factors into account, you can choose a chandelier that will add beauty and elegance to your home for years to come.
