Laundry Room Styling Guide and Ideas

Proper laundry room styling is a careful balance of functionality and decorative appeal. The necessary combination of these two elements can make it difficult to think of laundry room styling ideas. Scroll through the laundry room pictures and read Lighting Design's commentary on the elements found in each photo.

Laundry Room Inspo #1

The first laundry room inspiration is this one with a stacked washer and dryer. Reasons why we love it: the stacked washer and dryer give a lot more space for cabinets and counters. It also can work nicely if your laundry room is limited on space. The cabinet colors are classic and the open-shelving units are beautiful. We also have to comment on the lighting above the cabinets. The light fixture is classically a bathroom light but it works well here while being aesthetically pleasing and lighting up the space. Additionally, there are can lights so the bath bar isn't the only source of light.

Reasons it may not work for everyone: Stacking washers and dryers may not work in homes with lower ceilings and many washers and dryers aren't stackable unless specifically purchased that way. The open shelves may not be practical. The shelves are very aesthetically pleasing, but may not be the most functional in terms of storage and organization. The stark white counters and floors may make it harder to keep the laundry room looking fresh and clean day after day.

Reasons why we love it: This laundry room is a bright and colorful choice. The colors and patterns make for a really happy look. The large window provides a lot of natural lighting. There is plenty of storage above the laundry machines. The sink right next to the machines is convenient for spot-cleaning clothing. A rod to hang clothing is very convenient for those articles of clothing that need to be air-dried.

Reasons it may not work for everyone: As fun as the design is, it may be quickly outdated. The wallpaper and tile are unique but will most likely be considered outdated in a few years. However, if you love the design, it doesn't matter if it is considered "trendy" or not. The light fixture is beautiful, however it looks like it is the only electrical light offered. At night or during darker times, it could be a dimly lit space.

Laundry Room Inspo #3

Reasons why we love it: First and foremost, two washers and two dryers. Does it get any better than that? You can get double the amount of laundry done in the same amount of time. The counters above the machines make for good room for folding or spot-cleaning garments. The cabinets above the machines are practical for storage. Finally, the lighting here is absolutely beautiful. Featuring the Broche semi-flush chandelier from Crystorama, it's a rich gold color drawing in warmth. Additionally, the wall sconces are adorable and add additional lighting needed for the space.

Reasons why it may not work for everyone: Not everyone will have the laundry room space for two washers and two dryers. The clothing hanging space is sparse and may not be adequate room. Unless there is more storage elsewhere, you could be lacking in space.

Reasons why we love it: The cabinetry color is a stunning navy blue that contrasts nicely with the white tile flooring. Stackable washer and dryer save space in a smaller laundry room. There is plenty of cabinetry space. The tall cabinets right next to the washer and dryer may work perfectly for storing ironing tables or other laundry room accessories.

Reasons why it may not work for everyone: Not all washers and dryers are stackable. The open section where a dog bed is may be a waste of space for some people. Although, it could double as a place to put laundry hampers. The sink is somewhat farther away from the machines increasing the odds of running dripping textiles from the sink to the washer.

Laundry Room Inspo #5

Reasons why we love it: The cream cabinetry color is fairly timeless. It has open shelving concepts but with baskets that make storage a lot more practical. There is ample counter space above the washer and dryer. The larger cabinets on either side of the laundry machines make for great storage.

Reasons why it may not work for everyone: We don't see a sink pictured here. Nor do we see a hanging bar option for hanging clothing pieces. The open shelves may not be the most helpful in terms of storage space.

Laundry Room Inspo #6

Why we love it: The raised space for the washer and dryer is well thought out. For front-loading washing machines, it makes it easier to switch over and remove laundry. The opening right next to the machines with rolling hampers is perfect for dirty or clean clothing transfers. Large cabinets provide many storage options.

Why it may not work for everyone: Some of the cabinets have a semi-seethrough screen. This may be a little messy to the eye at first glance. There isn't a sink to be seen meaning if it exists, it's a bit far away from the washer and dryer. The single open shelf above could be found lacking. Finally, the swing arm wall sconces are a nice touch, however, no can lighting is visible so the space could be dimly lit.
