Lighting Ideas for Small Bedrooms

When it comes to small bedroom lighting, selecting the right fixtures can instantly make your bedroom feel larger and more inviting. Here are several lighting ideas to light up a small bedroom space.

Flush mount lighting for small bedrooms. Flush mounts are the most obvious choice for many small bedrooms. Flush-mount fixtures have a sleek profile, which allows them to be hung at the proper height for many small bedrooms with ceilings less than nine feet tall. To get the most lighting, choose two, three, or even four-light flush mount options. Remember, the more bulbs in a light fixture, the more light that fixture will give off. For very small bedrooms, a simple flush mount option may be all that is needed.

Semi-flush mount bedroom lighting. An option that some homeowners forget is semi-flush mounts. Semi-flush mounts are perfect for small bedrooms, because they usually fit in the space while having more decorative flair than a flush mount. The semi-flush component allows for lighting embellishments like glass, crystals, beads, etc., to adorn the light fixtures.

Additionally, the rule for bedroom lights is that they hang no lower than 7 feet from the bottom of the fixture to the floor. This allows ample room for people to walk and stand up without fear of bumping into the room's lighting. Semi-flush mounts are typically no more than 6"-12" in height, making them the perfect choice of light that balances style and purpose.

Wall sconce lighting for small bedrooms. Sconces are an obvious choice for bedroom lighting for many people. However, in small bedrooms, you need all the space you can get. Use swing arm sconces to make the most of your bedroom lighting. Swing arm sconces give all the light of regular sconces, but can be pushed into the wall to make room for other bedroom storage/items when not in use. Swing arm sconces are the perfect example of form and function due to their light capacity and movable arm components.

Pendant lights for small bedrooms. This last suggestion may come as a surprise. But, pendant lights in bedrooms provide a lot of functionality to the room. Because pendant lights are installed in the ceiling, they are typically used as bedside lighting. The reason for this is that the pendants provide extra lighting around the bed, while leaving room on the nightstand or walls for things like storage and/or decor.
