5 Lighting and Home Trends for 2024

Lighting Design just got back from the Lightovation Dallas Market. At this Market, we pick out all the light fixtures to put in our showroom for the year. We find pendants, chandeliers, flush mounts, sconces, lamps, furniture, and more to bring to our customers. Every year, we get to see what the home and lighting trends will be for the year. Here are the five trends we think will be popular in 2024.

1. Cozy lighting and decor. Fall 2023 brought a turn toward cozy decor and warm colors. We saw this trend through added textures, layers, and deep colors such as olive green. This trend for cozy and inviting lighting and decor is expected to grow in 2024. Many interior design experts reason that with the economic turmoil in the United States, many people want something that feels warm, nostalgic, and like home. People want to feel like they have some control over what's happening around them and many are turning to cozy home elements as a result.

If you want to incorporate cozy decor and lighting in your home this year here are a few pieces you can opt for.

  • Picture lighting - any kind of accent lighting will work honestly. However, picture/art lighting adds extra ambiance and lighting that isn't too overboard.
  • Warm-toned paint - paint colors such as deep greens and reds, and warm whites. Paint color is such a great way to add a cozy home vibe.
  • Plush and textured linens - think stunning drapes and curtains or textured accent chairs and plush pillows.

2. Lamps. Playing on the interior design trend of cozy, lamps can provide that warmer and softer light many people are looking for. This can come in the form of table lamps or floor lamps. Either size will give the warm ambiance you want for your home.

At the Lightovation Market, there were a plethora of lamps ranging from table to desk to pharmacy styles. Lighting manufacturers that previously hadn't had lamp lines introduced them. Notable styles included organic materials such as cement bases, classic vintage prints, and rounded bases.

3. Traditional silhouettes. Modern traditional design is an interior design style that fuses traditional style decor and home goods with cleaner and more modern colors and lines. In 2024 this trend is expected to increase in popularity. We predict that you'll see more molding, arches, and traditional-styled light fixtures. These will be accompanied by warm neutral tones, organic materials, and

4. Texture. Textured shades made their debut at the Dallas Lightovation show. We saw texture in many forms including paper and pleats. The Danvers pendant from Hinkley Lighting has a handcrafted paper shade that shows differently depending on whether the light is on or off. The Bayu Pendant is another paper shade and is lightly pleated adding more texture to the shade itself.

Another textured shade style we saw a lot was basketweave. Basket-textured lighting shades were in almost every collection and almost every new release. The Arwen Pendant from Mitzi Lighting is a great example of a basket shade.

5. Alabaster. This was a lighting trend we saw at the last Lightovation Market we attended. In 2024, the alabaster trend isn't going anywhere. More and more lighting brands incorporated alabaster into their fixtures this year. Alabaster was used as shades rather than a typical linen or cotton light fixture shade. It was also seen used as an accent for light fixtures in the canopy or backing the light bulb. What draws many lighting designers to alabaster is the way it diffuses light. The natural stone allows light to filter through while providing a warm glow that doesn't poke your eye.

We can't wait to see how these trends turn out in 2024 and which lighting and home trends become even more popular. What are your predictions for 2024? Leave them in the comments below.
