Bedroom Lighting Trends that are Hot Right Now
Bedroom lighting is one of the most important lighting selections to make. Chances are you'll spend at least eight hours in your room, so ensuring you have the best lighting for your bedroom is necessary. Here are several bedroom lighting trends that are in right now. These trends can help you find the perfect lighting to fit your vibe.
Nightstand lamps. Lamps go everywhere these days! You'll find lamps in kitchens and living rooms. But for years you could find table lamps in the bedroom. That's because they offer the perfect amount of light needed at night for activities and provide you the option to turn them off without getting out of bed. Trends for nightstand table lamps include organic bases such as cement or wood, pleated shades, traditional shades, glass bases, and gold accents. When selecting lighting for your bedroom, you really can't go wrong with adding a couple of lamps to the room.
Bedside sconces. Sconces beside the bed almost always provide exactly what is needed for bedside lighting. Swing arm sconces make for a great option to extend or move light where needed for reading or lying in bed. The only part that can sometimes be tough about bedside sconces is the wiring. Many sconces can only be wired into the wall which means you'll most likely have to hire an electrician to do this. The other option is plug-in wall sconces. These are terrific because any plug-in sconce can be hardwired but if you only have outlets available they'll work for that too. Lighting Design offers many options for wall sconces that will fit every room and every budget.
Warm light color temps. Nothing says cozy like warm lighting. Lighting Design recommends keeping light and light bulb color temperatures between 2700K and 3000K. These give off a warmer and cozier glow. This is particularly important for a bedroom where you want cozy bedroom vibes. Unfortunately, many big box retailers sell super cheap light bulbs in the 4000K to 5000K color temp ranges. This is how many people end up with lighting that gives off very blue tones. Blue lighting is great for commercial settings but not so much for home settings. Opt for light temperatures between 2700K and 3000K for the ultimate inviting bedroom.
Smart lighting. Picture this. You're lying in your warm bed, reading a book, or scrolling through your phone. Your eyelids start to droop and you groan as you realize you have to get up to turn off your room lights. Enter smart lighting. Smart lighting is a huge trend in homes right now because of the benefits it offers. Instead of having to get out of your warm bed, you can turn off the lights from your phone.
Many people are switching to smart lighting as a convenience and a way to save on energy costs. The great thing is, you don't have to do costly smart home installation. You can easily swap bulbs for smart bulbs and programs like Amazon's Alexa or Apple Home can connect via WiFi to allow you to customize your lighting options at any point. Just be sure any light bulbs you get have a color temp of 2700K-3000K.
Hanging pendants. Another way people light up their nightstands and beside their beds is with pendants. Many homeowners find they like the look of two pendants hanging on either side of their beds. Pendants can also be a great option if you don't want to take up nightstand space with a lamp or sconce. We suggest using pendants with a type of glass shade and soft light bulbs. This way, the light will disperse evenly while also not poking you in the eye.
Traditional chandeliers. This year is the year of traditional homescapes. Traditional is coming back in a big way. Whether it's through the use of wallpaper, molding, or Roman shades people are going back to the classics. People find themselves wanting something timeless for their home so they don't feel like they have to keep up with the trends every year. Enter traditional chandeliers. Chandeliers that are round with mini shades or chandeliers that have a candle-style effect are the go-to for lighting bedrooms. These classic silhouettes give off a good amount of light while still bringing personal style and touch to the room.
