Warmer months are on the horizon. As the days get longer you may find yourself outdoors more. Here are our tips for creating the perfect outdoor space for your home. 

Furniture. One of the best ways to create the perfect outdoor space is with outdoor furniture. Outdoor furniture can be aesthetically pleasing and most importantly, functional. You can use different configurations of exterior sofas and chairs to create a cozy space for you and your guests to relax on warm summer nights. Another furniture addition to make is a firepit. A fire pit can be a fun and relaxing spot for you and any guests to congregate around. It also offers the perfect place to create summer memories making s'mores or other treats. Flora. Adding florals and plants to your front and/or backyard is another option for creating an inviting outdoor home space. Some of our favorite flowers for summer in your yard include hydrangeas, marigolds, peonies, coneflower, and lavender plants. Keep in mind that not every flower or plant will do well in every climate. For example, marigolds, shrubs, or cacti would do well in Arizona and New Mexico whereas hydrangeas and mulberry trees would do better in more temperate climates. Strategically selecting the flowers and plants to go in your yard is the key to creating an inviting outdoor space.

Fixtures. Another thing to consider when creating your outdoor space is your exterior lighting fixtures. Outdoor lights can be decorative and practical. Outdoor lighting can be a safety feature giving off the proper amount of lighting while also highlighting landscaping and home features. Landscape lighting can be carefully placed to light pathways and create a warm nighttime glow. If you want to quickly update your curb appeal, exterior lights are one of the best ways to do this. Refresh your exterior sconces and lanterns with new up-to-date fixtures. Additionally, string lighting is a popular option for hanging from gazebos and fences. String outdoor lighting is a beautiful and visually appealing addition to any outdoor space.

Fans. Outdoor ceiling fans can add functionality to your porch or patio. Fans offer a way to cool your outdoor space and sit comfortably outside during warmer months. When shopping for an outdoor ceiling fan, be sure to choose a fan that is outdoor or wet-rated. Outdoor fans are specially made with weatherproof finishes and motor components. That way it can withstand rainstorms and summer sun. You can also opt for a damp-rated ceiling fan if it will be installed under a fully covered porch or patio. Damp-rated outdoor ceiling fans won't be able to withstand direct heat and weather so placing them under a cover is necessary. A bonus to outdoor ceiling fans is they can help keep smaller bugs at bay.
