How to Know When it's Time to Upgrade Your Lighting

Lighting is often one of the most overlooked pieces in a home, it creates a warm and bright atmosphere that can help improve the mood of you and your guests.  From ceiling lights to lamps to chandeliers there are so many options to choose from. Lighting is to a home what jewelry is to an outfit. Below are three indicators that you need to switch out your lighting 

You need more light. One of the first indicators that your lighting needs an upgrade is that you need more light in a room. “Insufficient lighting will make family members and friends avoid the areas, while also making a room feel cramped.” (The Importance of lighting in your home) If you are feeling like your room is too dim or your fixture isn't producing enough light first try switching out your old incandescent bulbs for LED bulbs. LED bulbs are brighter, last 25x longer, and reduce energy. Incandescent bulbs bring a washed out color and produce a yellow tone while LEDs bring a much brighter white light to the space. When purchasing a new ceiling light to brighten up your space make sure the fixture you are buying has a normal medium base light rather than a candelabra base, candelabra lights aren't usually as bright as a normal medium base but can be bought in LEDs. 

Your current fixtures are old and unattractive. A lot of older fixtures have dark shades or stained glass that diminish some of the light that the fixture produces. Try purchasing a fixture with a glass shade or no shade at all. That way you are getting all the light that your fixture is producing and none of it is shaded or covered. When your fixture reaches the age it should be replaced it usually has broken parts that are no longer under warranty and the fixture has been discontinued so the broken pieces cannot be replaced. Additionally damaged fixtures can be dangerous due to exposed wires or broken glass pieces. Adding any new ceiling light fixture can liven up your home and give it the extra touch it needs

Your home needs an upgrade. Upgrading your lighting gives your home a fresh new look. When updating your home you don't want to leave out one of the most important pieces to keeping your home look “on trend” or “in style.” Lighting is a perfect way to make a statement in your home and a great way to add some of your style to the space. “When it comes to your home, a place where you likely spend a majority of your free time, lighting dictates the overall “vibe” of the space.” (Murray Lampert) Many people overlook lighting but it is one of the easiest options when it comes to upgrading your home to a fresh new look, updated lighting keeps your home appealing and pleasing to the eye. A new light is one of the quickest ways to give your home an upgrade.
