Recessed and Specialty Lighting Size Guide

Recessed/Can Lighting

When figuring out how many can lights you need, consider the size of your room. Recessed lighting should be spaced about 4 to 6 feet apart and at least one foot from walls on all sides. Use the most common size of recessed light: 5 inches or 6 inches. This will ensure you have enough lumens per square foot.

Tape Lighting

The length of tape lighting should directly correlate to the length of the space it is being installed in. i.e., a 5-foot space would need 5 feet of tape lighting. The most common tape light is 1.44 watts per foot. Be sure to use a compatible driver to convert the 120V to the tape light's 10V. For example, if you had 20 feet of tape light, you would need a 28-watt driver.
