Trending Lighting Aesthetics in 2024

Never underestimate the power of good lighting for your home. In 2024, the trending lighting aesthetics are focused on functionality and bringing a welcoming and cozy atmosphere at home. Through various visits to Lightovation Markets and Parade of Homes, we've gathered info on what the biggest lighting trends are this year.

  • Utilizing strip lighting in different places. Typically, strip lighting has been used for undercabinet lighting but in 2024 people are getting more creative with it. One way we've seen people use strip lighting in the home is by incorporating the lights into ceiling beams. Typically this looks like a light strip embedded along the center of a beam. It's a unique way to add extra lighting to a space without the use of can lights.
  • Focus on accent lighting. Accent lighting is exactly what it sounds like. It's usually carefully curated pieces of lighting that are meant to accentuate the area around them. Examples of accent lighting include table lamps, floor lamps, and picture lights. Table or floor lamps can be the perfect accent lighting to enhance a comfortable home atmosphere. They give off a warm light and allow the user to go without overhead lighting. Additionally, lamps or picture lights are attractive fixtures to included in any room.
  • Warm light. 2024 is the year of cozy. One way many people are choosing to bring a cozy aesthetic to their home is with warm lighting. And we're talking lighting color temp. A brief reminder of the difference between light temp and light output. Light temperature is measured in Kelvins. The higher the Kelvin the more cool tones the light will give off. Light output is measured in Lumens. The higher the lumens, the more light a bulb will give off, and vice versa. The ideal home lighting temperature sits right at 2700K to 3000K. Remember 2700K will be warmer than 3000K so choose bulbs based on how they will tie in with your home.
  • An ode to tradition and vintage. This year, many people are looking for timeless ways to decorate their homes. Many hopeful decorators are looking for pieces that call back to traditional and vintage styles. Better Homes and Gardens provides examples of these vintage decor trends.  We're also seeing this with light fixtures. Particularly with ceiling light fixtures. Think chandeliers, semi-flush mounts, etc. Ceiling lights with warm brass colors, opaque glass accents, or candlestick luminaries are features to look for when choosing vintage-inspired lighting. Additionally, wall lights such as sconces can help add tradition to the home. Placed beside fireplaces, beds, or in bathrooms sconces with shades and/or pleated accents like the Crestwood or Kismet are beautiful additions.
